A Great Day!

Who would think it would be cold enough for a sweater in Arizona!

Christmas Day at our house was very much-anticipated but unlike past years it wasn’t just for gifts under the tree or having family close for the day.  We knew Nathan would call at 6 pm!  And we couldn’t wait.  We decided to invite the missionaries serving here to breakfast with our family.  It was a great experience to share food and to laugh with them.  But as you can imagine, we were all staring at the phone at 5:55.  It was so great to hear his voice, ask him questions and tell him whatever popped into my head.  He is doing really well, seems happy and hasn’t gained or lost any weight.  Nathan and his new companion, Elder Hyers, are able to budget their money a little differently and make it a point to go to Jumba Juice once a week.  They have two baptisms on Saturday and are looking forward to that.  Nathan and Elder Hyers get along really well and seem like they have a lot in common.  They got up at 5 am on Christmas in order to play some basketball and had a great dinner with a family.  They were on their way to have dessert with another family after their phone calls.  And as a bonus, we got pictures!  It was a great day!

I am so very thankful that Nathan is serving our Heavenly Father, that he is having great experiences and that he loves the people in Arizona.  And I am thankful he has given our family the example of selfless service.  Christmas took on a new meaning in giving as I contemplated  Heavenly Father’s gift to each of us.  I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and I hope that 2013 will be a joyous year for you and your family.
