When I sat down in front of my computer this morning, it occurred to me that maybe not everyone who reads this blog knows what the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believes. On one of the Church’s websites I found an article titled “Mormonism 101: FAQ. If you are interested you can find it at http://www.mormonnewsroom.org.uk. It explains what the core beliefs of the church are:
“The founder of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Joseph Smith, wrote, “The fundamental principles of our religion are … concerning Jesus Christ that He died, was buried, and rose again the third day, and ascended into heaven; all other things which pertain to our religion are only appendages to it.” In addition to the above, Latter-day Saints believe unequivocally that:
1. Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world and the Son of our loving Heavenly Father
2. Christ’s Atonement allows mankind to be saved from their sins and return to live with God and their families forever.
3. Christ’s original Church as described in the New Testament has been restored in modern times.”
And that is basically what Nathan is teaching to those who are willing to hear his message.
Nathan and Elder Bolinger started to teach a family who has accepted their invitation for baptism. “They have never really gone to church regularly but they feel it would be good for their children (12, 9, and 7) and at fast and testimony meeting they saw so many young people “pouring out their hearts” and that really impressed them. Also, the ward has done awesome at reaching out to them and who wouldn’t want to go somewhere where the people care about you? It is really cool.”
And in case anyone is wondering if Nathan is still the same, he is. I sent him a package of things that I knew he used to like, including a Costco size bag of precooked bacon – “Bacon is great, I use it frequently in my cooking. And there is a missionary here who has the bear version of my tiger shirt! We are just too cool. And we go through a disgusting amount of Otter Pops every week so everything is great. Did I tell you how much I love Idahoan potatoes? Because I buy a few bags a week just about every week. You guys are the best.” That makes this mom feel good!
