John and I attended a Missionary Broadcast on Sunday. It was a really neat feeling to know that Nathan was watching the same broadcast at the same time. Referring to the surge of missionaries in recent months (from 52,000 to 70,274), Elder Jeffrey R. Holland said, “To the many members of the Church gathered in innumerable locations, we affirm that ward and stake councils can no longer say of this great army of missionaries, ‘There they go.’ No, the hour is upon us in which we must now say, ‘Here they come.’ All of us must plan for and use this heaven-sent resource in the most productive way possible.” There was some exciting news – missionaries will soon be using computers to contact those who are interested in learning more about the church. They will be using Facebook, blogs, email and texting. Wow! I am sure that it will take some time for all of the missionaries that are all over the world to begin to use computers but I think that it is pretty exciting. Elder L. Tom Perry said, “As missionaries enter this new age where they will use computers in the work of the Lord, we invite the young and the old, the adults, the young adults, the youth, and the children everywhere to join with us in this exciting new work by becoming Facebook friends with the missionaries in your area on your own computers and sharing their gospel messages online and by becoming involved in missionary work yourselves.”
Shortly after Nathan got to Phoenix he began to encourage us to make a I am a Mormon profile on http://www.mormon.org. It took me a little while (it is a little intimating!) but I finally finished a few months ago. It is fun to see Nathan’s profile and so many others, some that I know (like my brother) and others that are just interesting to read. I definitely recommend getting on and see who you know.
And now for Nathan’s news: “I haven’t done much talking about the work here. It is pretty slow, expect for one family that is really awesome. They are the ones that were looking at houses in Utah. They were a referral from a member down in Avondale and we taught them for the first time my first day here. They have 3 kids, a 12-year old boy and a 9- girl and a 7-year old girl. All that are old enough are planning on getting baptized on July 27 but their son, isn’t too into it. Whenever we are there he is just in his room playing video games.”
And from one of their hikes on a P day – watch out for those snakes!
