I spent the weekend watching General Conference. I was definitely uplifted as I listened to apostles of God speak on numerous topics. One of my favorite talks was President Dieter F. Uchtdorf’s “Come Join With Us.” I wanted to call Nathan! President Uchtdorf said “If you seek truth, meaning and a way to transform faith into action; if you are looking for a place of belonging: Come, join with us. If you have left the faith you once embraced: Come back again. Join with us. If you are tempted to give up: Stay yet a little longer. There is room for you here. I plead with all who hear or read these words: Come, join with us.” He cited three reasons why the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is one of the fastest growing churches in the world. First, the Church was restored by Jesus Christ Himself. “Here you will find the authority to act in His name — to baptize for the remission of sins, to confer the gift of the Holy Ghost, and to seal on earth and in heaven. Those who join this Church love the Savior Jesus Christ, and they wish to follow Him.” Another reason is because the Church provides opportunities for doing good. He pointed out that believing in God is commendable, but most people want to do more than listen to inspirational sermons. And a third reason why people join the Church is because walking the path of discipleship leads to blessings. President Uchtdorf said. “Those who follow this path faithfully avoid many of the pitfalls, sorrows and regrets of life. The poor in spirit and honest of heart find great treasures of knowledge here. Those who suffer or grieve find healing here. Those burdened with sin find forgiveness, liberty and rest.” It’s a great talk – if you want to read it check it out at http://www.lds.org.
I am sure Nathan was happy to hear President Uchtdorf explain why so many people are interested in the Church. Here is what he had to say this week: “We had a pretty good week this week, definitely full, and this week will be much the same. Tomorrow we have zone interviews with President Taylor from 8-4, we are going on an exchange on Wednesday, and exchanges with the Zone leaders on Friday. We had a leadership conference on Tuesday that was fantastic. We talked a lot about tightening up our obedience on Online Proselyting. Why? We will have IPads and IPhones by February. So we have a lot of getting ready to do. The A…s (who are moving and will be baptized in a new area) are getting ready to move this week, we watched conference with them yesterday and they enjoyed it. I am sure they will fit in great with their ward, and I am sure that we will be able to find some new people to teach. While I was on an exchange, Elder Crapo and another missionary had a lesson with B… and set a baptismal date for her, but I want to make sure she is committed to it. She sure has come a long way since I got here, and I sure hope she gets there.”
Of course he ends with this: “Oh, I forgot to mention this the last few weeks, we killed a rattlesnake a while ago. It was just a little guy though.” I bet he is laughing at the reaction his mom is sure to have – and he would have been right. 🙂
