It has been very interesting watching what began as a pile of dirt transform into a house. I was intrigued with the forms they put in place in order to make the foundation. I realized seeing this process how important a sure foundation is for a house and how much work there is before the walls go up. I certainly hope that our house will be able to withstand the wind and other storms that will certainly come. It is just as important for us to have a solid foundation so that when we face the storms and trials of life we will be able to stand strong. In the Book of Mormon Helaman gives the following counsel to his sons: “And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall.” (Helaman 5:12) What a comfort it is to know that despite the winds that blow around us we are safe in the knowledge of our Savior, Jesus Christ. It is because of this knowledge that people like Nathan leave everything behind to testify to the world of the love that Jesus has for each of us. And it is why Nathan feels so much joy when people receive his message.
Here is what he had to say this week:
“2 crazy things to tell you about: first of all, there was this part-member family in my first area and we taught the husband one lesson and he said no thanks, it wasnt for him. . . they moved here, and he ended up getting baptized a couple of months ago! I was so happy to see that. Also, there was . . . who we tried to work with in Phoenix North who we are teaching here. One other exciting thing, B… asked for me to be at her baptism on Saturday! I am really excited for that.”
